HAWAII’S BALMY BREEZES AND BEAUTIFUL BEACHES ARE CALLING YOU TO EXPLORE THE LORE OF THESE LEGENDARY ISLANDS

If you’ve thought about going to Hawaii, I’ll just say it—go. It’s much more than just beaches and palm trees. Each island has its own feel, and there’s a lot to explore if you’re up for a little adventure (or a lot of relaxing—both are perfectly enjoyable).

On Oahu, you’ve got a mix of city and nature. You could hike up Diamond Head for some spectacular views over Honolulu, check out the North Shore for big waves and laid-back beach towns, or spend the day exploring local food trucks in Haleiwa (pronounced huh-lee-wuh - the garlic shrimp is worth the mess just saying). The Polynesian Cultural Center is a great stop if you want to experience traditional music, hula, and food in one place. The evening luau here is really well done.

The Big Island feels totally different—more open space, fewer crowds, and a whole lot of natural variety. You’ve got Volcanoes National Park, where you can walk across old lava flows and see steam vents in the earth. The black sand beaches are something else, and if you’re lucky, you might spot sea turtles just hanging out in the sun. Coffee lovers can tour farms in Kona, and if you’re into stargazing, the observatory on Mauna Kea (pronounced mow (like how) -nuh kay-ya) is about as clear as it gets.

Maui is a little bit of everything—waterfalls, beaches, snorkeling, whale watching (in winter), and that long, winding Road to Hana that everyone talks about. It really is such a beautiful drive, but take your time with it. Stop at the roadside stands for some delicious banana bread, check out the hidden waterfalls, and don’t feel like you need to rush just to get to the end of the road.

Kauai is quieter, more lush, and perfect if you want a slower pace. You can kayak the Wailua River (pronounced why-loo-ah), hike along the cliffs of Na Pali Coast, or take a boat tour if you’d rather sit back and just take it all in. The food here is simple but fresh. Try the local plate lunches, shave ice, and anything made with taro.

And then there’s the part that people don’t always talk about: the culture. There’s a real sense of care and connection in Hawaii. It shows up in small ways—how people greet each other here, the stories they share, and how much pride they take in their land and traditions. If you have the chance to attend a local luau, do it. It’s not just a show, it’s a way of being welcomed into the history and rhythm of the island. The dancing, the music, the food, it’s all part of it.

Hawaii can be as active or as relaxed as you want it to be. You can pack your days with hiking, golf, snorkeling, and tours…or you can just sit with your feet in the sand and breathe a little deeper than you usually do.

If Hawaii’s been on your mind, it may be time to plan a visit. Once you’re there, your memories and moments spent in the islands will be long remembered and reflected upon.

Let me know if you have any questions about traveling to Hawaii. I’d love to help answer them and help you get there when the time feels right.
