THE DESERT LANDSCAPE OF EL PASO, TEXAS DELIVERS AND DELIGHTS ALL WHO VISIT

I know El Paso might not be the one of the first places to pop into your head when you’re dreaming up your next getaway, but let me tell you why it should be. It’s tucked into the far west corner of the Lone Star State and is rich in beautiful scenery, adventure, history, and culture.

El Paso is home to Franklin Mountains State Park where you can hike, bike or drive up Scenic Drive to experience breathtaking overlook views. Spanning over 24,000 acres, this park is home to a variety of trails suitable for all levels of hikers. Also situated in the Franklin Mountains is the Wyler Aerial Tramway. This tramway is a great way to take in the desert landscape and delivers breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. It takes visitors on a thrilling ride to Ranger Peak, where you can soak in the stunning vistas. The tramway is definitely a must-do activity when you visit.

For those seeking an adrenaline rush, head over to Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site (pronounced hu-wayco). This is a world-renowned bouldering destination that offers challenging rock formations and exhilarating climbing experiences. Hike through the desert landscape, explore ancient rock art, and soak in the unique atmosphere of this geological marvel.

You’ll want to stroll through the historic Mission Trail, which is home to three iconic missions dating back centuries and offers a glimpse into El Paso’s Spanish colonial past. For a real treat, catch a live show at the beautifully restored Plaza Theater, (one of the best-preserved historic theaters in the country). Art appreciators can explore the El Paso Museum of Art, which boasts an impressive collection of European, Mexican, and American art. If you just want to go for a walk and take in some local culture, wander downtown to explore the many colorful murals, street art, and old buildings.

It’s time to talk about food (because priorities). El Paso is rich in borderland history with a mix of Mexican and Texan that shows up in the music, the architecture, and especially the food. There’s deep history here that is blended with vibrant culture and border-town flavor. Mexican food hits different here—it’s bold, comforting, and full of flavor you won’t forget. Places like L&J Café (a local institution and the churros are a must), Chico’s Tacos (locals defend this place with a passion), and hole-in-the-wall spots with handmade tortillas that will have you rethinking your life choices in the best way. Honestly though, you really and truly have not eaten Mexican food until you’ve tried it here in El Paso.

Oh—and don’t skip the sunsets. They’re not just your regular old sunsets. Golden hour hits different here. They are El Paso sunsets—warm, wide, and golden, with mountain silhouettes and skies that go from peach to fire in mere minutes.

Whether you’re a history buff, foodie, nature lover, or just want a getaway that feels both grounded and exciting, El Paso has something to offer everyone. It’s authentic, welcoming, and unforgettable. If you’re looking to slow down, explore somewhere different, or simply soak in some sunshine and scenery…El Paso will win you over every time. If it’s not currently on your list of travel destinations to visit, it’s time to change that.

If this beautiful border town is calling you, or if you have any questions about visiting El Paso, I'd like to help answer them for you and help get you there when the time feels right.
